Welcome to YEAR 6 SUMMER Term 1 2018
Welcome Back Year 6, we hope you had a lovely Easter Break and are ready to start your summer term. I hope the children who attended the Easter Booster sessions found them useful and confidence building.
This is a short term but a busy one!
Our topic focus is Physical, Social and Health Education through studying the book THE EIGHTEENTH EMERGENCY by Betsy Byars - a Modern Story Classic. This book will give us the inspiration to write short narrative stories and secure many grammatical elements, that a YEAR 6 writer needs to produce, confidently and independently. Spellings will continue weekly.
In Mathematics we will be reviewing many key skills, starting with geometry and measurement and the children will also have daily arithmetic sessions. Our key focus through the term will be reasoning and problem solving. Booster sessions will only continue in school time this term.
In Science Class 6 will be starting their term by completing their classification topic. The will investigate helpful and harmful micro-organisms and begin to understand the structure of cells and learn to describe these.
Year 6 will be taught RE this term by Mrs White, they will begin by doing some work on the last man of the village who died in the first world war 100 years ago this month; Cecil Ridlington. They will study some war poetry, which should support their literacy, and write some thoughts and feelings of their own.
PE will be on Tuesday (Dance) and on Friday, the children will be enjoying Athletics and Rounders this term. Outside and inside kit will be required.
In Art and Design children will create clay face models and use Picasso as inspiration too.
Important Dates for this Term:
SATS start 14th May for one week. Monday to Thursday
Derbyshire Parents Meeting – Thursday 26th April 6pm
Thank you so much for the continuing support, you have been very positive about the things I have implemented concerning the Year 6 tests, this is much appreciated.
